Trekking
If anyone thinks that NCC is all about hard work…well he/she is correct, but only partially. Of course we have to work hard but we have our own share of moments of complete fun. Trekking, range firing, seminars and many more things…. These memories are simply fantastic and I am sure no one will ever be able to forget. The enthusiasm with which everyone get up early in the morning(at 5.00 am!)…dresses up and then lines up in front of agate,is unbelievable.
I will take up one of them…..trekking.
So as usual we got up early to get ready to assemble in front of agate. We went to the unit in college bus. It was our first interaction with the officials and with students of other college after camp. Oh yes we came to know there that Sastra college will join us for the trip. We were early,so they provided us with breakfast and gave us some tips on what precautions we are supposed to take(carrying salt was one of them, and not making sound while observing a bird was another).
The first thing that we were told was that it will be more of a picnic then trekking as the distance would be small and will not be really stressful. Well as it turned out at the end, he was correct. When Sastra people came we started our journey on those ncc vans(I still don’t know what kind of vehicle is that…we deduced it be echor). It was a real long journey of some 2 hrs or so. It seemed we were supposed to do our trek sitting on the van. We were getting a bit impatient( a bit because sudha and mohanraj had a comp on who can “chaat’ the best).
Finally we reached the spot…it was some forest on the sides of the hill. We walked for around half an hour. On the way we saw shell of some animal, nothing much. We had to walk carefully .We reached a temple, which is famous because seven sisters killed themselves there to protect their self respect. Place was nice. We sat there for sometime. Took pics, had some refreshments and then started to get back. On our way back we saw a beautiful blue colour crab(the only exceptional thing in the whole trek!).
The full thing got over quite early(around 2 o clock),we were unsatisfied and more importantly didn’t want to get back to college early. So our seniors requested the officials to go for another spot. They said it will take time, but after some insistence they took us to visit Mogambo dam. On return journey we played games (acting and identifing personalities and films). We halted in a spot to have our lunch and then we went to the unit. From there the ncc van dropped us to Mogambo spot and we were told not leave the place before 5.00. Mogambo dam was again fun. We left the spot obediently by 5.00…back to our old college life.
All i can say at the end is we enjoyed throughout the day,and its not just one day we have lots of moments in NCC, if we start telling I doubt if it will ever end. bbye
